On Sunday night last, 28 October 2012, the ladies of ANSARA Seremban Batch 80-84 met up again for round 4 of Feeding the Homeless Project. This time round, they were hosted by Bara Bistro, a restaurant co-owned by AN ANSARA Seremban alumni of batch 80-84, located at Axis Atrium, Taman Cempaka, Ampang. The change in location has its advantages, though. It enabled those living in the Ampang area, and those who happened “to be passing through” (the exact words of one alumni) to join this session of the Feed The Homeless project.
We saw some new faces that day, and feel glad that our project is seeing continued support from ANSARA Seremban members. There were volunteers from Batch 72 including Prez Zainal Hisham, batch 77 and batch 79. There were 5 volunteers from batch 81! Truly, good deeds transcend the batches. We felt renewed vigour that our project is getting support and notice not only from Batch 80, but from a wider spectrum of the ANSARA Seremban community.
The activities kicked off at around 9.30 pm. The menu for the night was “nasi goreng kampung”, in line our need to provide simple and filling and nutritious food. Alhamdulillah, our sisters from batch 79 had generously sponsored the food for the day. As usual, 100 packets were packed, each of a nasi goreng kampung meal and a bottle of mineral water. They were distributed in the vicinity of Bangkok Bank and Masjid Negara, by volunteers of Muslim Aid.
This time, the ANSARA Seremban volunteers chose to follow the fellow volunteers of Muslim Aid in distributing the food. Under strict supervision, of course.
Several participants had braved the night to distribute the food and water themselves, of course under strict monitoring of the Muslim Aid volunteers. BRAVO! Our salute to you BRO and SIS! Before leaving for such noble cause, participants were briefed of the dos and don’ts during distribution by En. Muhammad, a representative of Muslim Aid, many may come handy in executing their tasks. Brief explanations were also given on the modus operandi of those homeless, their whereabouts, their time of slumber and so on.
As the saying goes, a picture paints a thousand word. But no amount of words can describe the sorrow we felt seeing the homeless during our rounds that night. We felt overwhelmed, thinking that our deeds are but a drop in the ocean. But we hope that what small contributions we make can help highlight the plight of the homeless.
The Feed The Homeless Round 4 was graced by the presence of TV3 crews, who arrived around 10.45 pm instead of 10 pm as scheduled. (You know lah, KL traffic). No one complained though, as everyone was busy chatting, catching up with each other, nurturing and fostering silattulrahim.
Video shots were taken of our ANSARA Seremban members doing the food packing, and interviews were conducted with representatives of batch 80. The recording is for a segment of the ANSARA Seremban BIG 40 TV treatment on Malaysia Hari Ini, to be on 7 November 2012. Catch the segment starting 7.50 am on the day.
Alhamdulillah, everything was wrapped up around 12.45 am. Yes, it was tiring but nothing beats the feeling of joy and happiness, knowing that you have helped someone sleep on a full stomach that night.
Please do keep tabs on the next project. Your participations and contributions are most welcomed. We welcome any contribution, in cash or kind. Contact Shikin Ali HP 012-267 2512. Cash contributions can be made to Norain Basiron (we call her Ain), the group’s treasurer via account MBB 562508510746.
Our heartfelt thanks to Muslim Aid for the help. Last, but not least, our endless gratitude to all ANSARA Seremban members who have given us support, in cash and kind, or have encourage us to work on our project. Your continued support keeps us strong.
