The inital idea was mooted by Zailina Ahmad Jailani (Mimie) in one of our social get togethers. The chain of events actually started to roll after our meeting with the EXCO Ansara Seremban during their road show. During the July 2012 BIG 40 meeting, we decided to undertake this program as our contribution as a batch event/programme in the run up to MRSM Big 40 celebration.
As we did not have experience distributing food to the homeless, we sought the assistance of a Muslim NGO as they have been doing it on a regular basis. Mimie got in touch with the Muslim Aid Malaysia and by end-June, we met the Muslim Aid Director, En. Wan Rusli Wan Muda and En. Muhammad Bin Kamarulazizi (Programme Development Manager) at their office in Bangsar.
After the Muslim Aid meeting, we started our fundraising for the programme start, and praise be to Allah, we had full support from our batch members. The first FEEDING THE HOMELESS event was realised on the 20 July 2012, and the Ours Cafe, owned by Mimie, became our base of operations for the preparation and the packing of the food. We started with 100 packets of mee goreng and mineral water.
After the success of the first project, we received praises and support from the ANSARA Seremban Exco and from various segments of the MRSM Seremban community. The support and encouragement will inspire us to do much more, InsyaAllah. In fact, after he announcement of the event on the MRSM Seremban FB wall, we received donations to fund the project from ANSARA Seremban members. Thank you (x 1 million), no words would ably describe our gratitude for such contributions.
On 5 August 2012, the second FEEDING THE HOMELESS project was again done at Ours Café. But this time our efforts was assisted by our seniors, including the ANSARA Seremban President and Dr. Zaidi, the BIG 40 Dinner Chairman. Chef Salim also turned up to give moral and vocal support (he has the voice that rivals Gordon Ramsey) . Being the Chef he is, before long he was in an apron, helping us.
For this month of Ramadan, the food distribution was done for Sahur, which began from 1 am around the Chow Kit , Masjid Jamek and Bangkok Bank area.
We hope the FEEDING THE HOMELESS will be a continuous program, InsyaAllah, as a monthly event. We heartily welcome your participation and contribution. May Allah bless our intentions.Verily, We have created man in toil, Thinks he that none can overcome him? He says (boastfully): “I have wasted wealth in abundance!”, Thinks he that none sees him?,Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?, And a tongue and a pair of lips?, And shown him the two ways (good and evil)?, But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep., And what will make you know the path that is steep?, (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.),Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), To an orphan near of kin., Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery….. Surah Al Balad, ayat 4-16
The Ladies of ANSARA Seremban Batch 80 welcomes any contribution in cash or kind. Cash contributions can be made to Norain Basiron (we call her Ain), the group’s treasurer via account MBB 562508510746.
